Utah weather stays cool at the start of the weekend

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Good Friday! After a wet working week, we are starting to dry out today with more sun and calm conditions statewide.

Temperatures remain well below average after a major low altitude affected the beehive state, causing heavy rains and flooding in several areas.

Friday will be a calm day with daytime highs climbing in the 1970s along the Wasatch Front with Salt Lake City peaking at 78. We saw record cool conditions in Salt Lake and Tooele on Thursday with new record highs, and part of it the fresh air lingers.

Today begins a drying and warming trend in southern Utah for the next few days, while in the north we expect rainy weather on Saturday afternoon, evening and Sunday morning. Winds will also increase in St. George for the weekend, so the risk of fire may be on the rise.

Speaking of fire, stubborn smoke will always have an impact on air quality with high particles pushing our air into the “moderate” category statewide. Smoke persists throughout the day with thicker plumes expected in western, southern and eastern Utah.

At the end of the line ? Today will be a beautiful day with cooler temperatures and drier conditions, with moderate air quality.
