Utah Weather: How much snow will there be?



Following snow and rain is planned in Utah for the coming weekend, but it’s not clear what to expect.

What’s the forecast?

KSL Weather reports that Friday will continue to see rain showers until noon. The rain will affect both the mountains and the valley floor.

  • According to Kristen Van Dyke of KSL Weather, the mountains will see snow on Friday.
  • A colder storm will move across the Wasatch front early Saturday. The snow will hit the bottom of the valleys. The highs will be in the 1930s and the lows will be in the 20s.

The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City said there is an active weather pattern that “will continue until early next week as a series of storms hit the region.”

The NWS broke down what to expect in a tweet. Here’s what to expect.

  • Friday – Snow in the mountains, rain in the valley. It will be mainly in northern Utah.
  • Saturday – Rain and snow throughout the valley and mountains from Saturday afternoon to Saturday evening.
  • Sunday – Rain and snow will decrease throughout the day.
  • Monday – Snow and rain develop again during the day.

More details

  • The NWS told a commentator that much of the precipitation on Saturday night could be rain in Salt Lake City area. Snow could fall from Saturday evening to Sunday morning with 1 to 3 inches possible.
  • And, in a separate comment, the NWS said “the valleys will see snow with Saturday’s system, but accumulations will be light.”
  • A third comment from NWS snow said “accumulations will be light, at least until Saturday”.
